Monuments
On places abandoned, Monuments, is a series that assesses what’s left, far after their stories are seemingly told. My early life, and subsequent passion for everything outdoors, was headlined by an aphorism plastered on the entrance of every park, eco-conscious commercial, and like-wise company: “Leave No Trace.” The absolution of presence while active in a place has always sat ill with me. The idea that we can be so easily forgotten as quickly as we arrived is only errant. To be conscious of presence, in its most immediate meaning, is all we can ask from one another; aware of more than just what we leave. A collection of images made in high-contrast infrared or black-and-white processes; documents of presence both current and past. To those looking to leave a mark on the world, do not fret, your every step is felt.
